Identification and development of carnosine derivatives detoxifying cytotoxic reactive carbonyl species (RCS)

The research line is aimed at the design (in collaboration with molecular modelling laboratories, Prof. Giulio Vistoli), synthesis (in collaboration with DISFARM’s synthesis laboratories, Proff. Dallanoce and Fumagalli) and development of new molecules detoxifying RCS species that originate from oxidation processes affecting lipids and sugars, involved as pathogenetic inducers of many pathologies, including diabetes. On this subject, the laboratory collaborates with numerous international research centres, including the laboratories directed by Prof. Anderson (University of Iowa), Dr. Fedorova (University of Dresden), Prof. Uchida (University of Tokyo), Prof. Spickett (Aston University), Prof. Correa (Sao Paulo State University).
