Network studies based on ‘omics’ data.
This area of research deals with the study of the mechanism of action of bioactive molecules, which are involved in the prevention of diseases and the maintenance of well-being. The research is based on new cellular (2D/3D) and animal models as well as biological fluids, quantitatively evaluating the expression of proteins, lipids, and metabolites, and providing a detailed description of the changes in the biological system following treatment. Through network analysis, the research identifies the involved signaling and metabolic pathways. The quantitative ‘omics’ approaches are based on advanced analytical methodologies: separation techniques (nano liquid chromatography, affinity chromatography, one- and two-dimensional protein electrophoresis), high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry, and bioinformatics and statistical analysis.
